Where is Jesus? (Luke 2:41-50)
Your child runs into the next aisle in the store, and you turn around and they are gone. You carefully put your house keys or car keys in a safe spot, and later cannot find them. You had sweet fellowship with Jesus, and then life happened. In the hustle and bustle of your life, has Jesus gotten lost? Do you find yourself asking “Where is Jesus? Where did he go”?
Mary was walking home with Joseph and her relatives from Jerusalem, when she suddenly she realized Jesus was gone. Frantically and passionately, as only a mother who has lost her child does, she looked everywhere and asked everyone “where is Jesus? Where did he go?”
Do you remember where she found Jesus? It wasn’t in the inn, for there wasn’t any room for him there in the first place. He wasn’t among her friends and family. He wasn’t in any buildings. He wasn’t participating in any of the busyness or activities of this world. Guess what - you won’t find Jesus in any of those places either.
You will find Jesus the same place Mary found Jesus. She found Jesus going about His Father’s business. Do you remember when you met Jesus the first time? He was going about His Father’s business.
So if you aren’t sure where Jesus is right now, you don’t have to look far – you will still find Jesus going about His Father’s business; you will find Jesus where you found him the first time. You will find him loving people, forgiving people, healing people and proclaiming the gospel. You will find him gently knocking on the door of your heart. You will find him with his nail pierced hands stretched open wide waiting to embrace you and welcome you home. You will find him loving you, waiting to forgive you, waiting to heal you, waiting to tell you more about God.
