Bright Shiny Objects

Why are you continually looking at bright shiny objects that are just outside your grasp.?

Before you touch, take and taste that bright shiny object, put your hand down and take one moment to pause and consider all the things you have and the relationships that you have. They may be bountiful, or they may just be a few. Think about who it is that has blessed you. Do not forget whose you are, you are a child of God, you are the son or daughter of the King of Heaven, you have a Heavenly Father, who sent His Son, Jesus, to die for you. Remember that He has sent the Holy Spirit to be with you, and right now, this very moment, you are not alone. He has promised never to leave you or forsake you. Why are you even considering giving all of this up? Why have you taken your eyes of the Cross? What is it that this bright shiny object is offering to you today that is better then what Christ has done for you?

This bright shiny object, is no different then the apple the serpent offered to Eve. Think about all the things that Eve had. She had all that she needed for survival – she lived in a land where every tree was pleasing to look at, and good for food; a land with an abundance of water flowing from the river of life, a land where every beast of the field, and all the birds of the heaven were living in peace with her. She had untold riches, for the land was filled with good gold and precious stones. And she had a husband who loved her. But more than this, she and Adam weren’t alone. God, the creator of all these good things that they had, personally came every evening to walk with them, to spend time with them, to talk them. If you were in Eve’s shoes, and you paused and thought about this, would you take the risk to give all of this up? Yet for one moment, Eve forgot about all of this, and all she saw was what she didn’t have. And in that moment of temptation she let go of all that God had given her, to grasp at a bright shiny object. And as soon as she had touched, taken and tasted she knew what she had given up, but by then it was too late.

Are you, in this moment, going to give up everything that God, the Creator of the universe has given you, are you going to exchange everything that God your Creator has done for you, for a bright shiny object?
